FIND ME AN OLD CEMETERY...

Updated: Sep 20, 2024

...and I am like a kid in a candy shop.

I never know why I select particular headstones to photograph, but Patsey’s grave made me stop and think. Killed? How? And at age 24. My goodness, it made me a bit sad for her, and I hoped her killer paid his dues.

Weeks later I found myself thinking of Patsey and thought I would do a little internet investigation. Low and behold, I actually found something! First off, my apologies; Patsey was a man. Whoops. And here’s the drama on his death: Apparently, Patsey got into a good ole bar brawl, and in an attempt to stop the fight, the saloon owner smacked Patsey over the head with a stick. Patsey ended up getting arrested, and spending the night in jail, but quickly fell ill and died shortly after. This did not make Patsey’s mother very happy who decided to go after the saloon owner, saying that he had murdered her son! However, she wasn’t going to find justice with this claim, as the coroner found that Patsey had a previous injury from falling off of his horse and hitting his head (ouch). That, plus the stick to the head, led to Patsey’s death in 1888.
